Paparoa Track – Local Info
The Paparoa National Park is a fascinating part of New Zealand offering diverse and beautiful scenery. The surrounding townships are rich with history and heroic stories of those who first settled here and those that followed in their footsteps. The Paparoa Track crosses the Paparoa Mountain Range from Blackball to Punakaiki and can be ridden or walked in either direction. There is plenty to see and do to complete your West Coast adventure in the surrounding townships.
Nestled at the foothills of the Paparoa Ranges, Blackball is a gateway to the Paparoa National Park. A great place to stay the night before you ride or walk the Paparoa Track.
Best known for the spectacular Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, as well as many walking tracks nearby. There are so many adventures to be had in and near Punakaiki.
The largest town on the West Coast and the arrival point for the Tranz Alpine Train from Christchurch. Well worth a visit before or after your Paparoa Track experience.
16km south of Punakaiki, perched at the southern end of Pakiroa Beach. Home of Barrytown Knifemaking, where you can forge your own knife from a red hot piece of steel.
