Paparoa Shuttles Latest News

A new partnership, Paparoa Track updates, shuttle timetable & pricing updates

With the opening of the Paparoa Track just over 6 weeks away, we have some exciting new developments…

A new partnership with the Blackball Co-op

We will now partner with the Blackball Co-op to enable us to provide a wider range of services and employment for Blackball based members of the Co-op.   With only 35 days until the trail opens, finalising a comprehensive timetable is our focus.  Our conversations with Paul Maunder of the Blackball Co-op have centred on adding to our planned timetable by incorporating Blackball based drivers which provides further employment for locals.

Establishing a shuttle service from scratch and funding the necessary infrastructure is always a challenge, so combining our plans with the Co-op allows us to meet the needs of all parties – plus provide a better service for riders and walkers. We will now base a shuttle vehicle and trailer in Blackball which will allow improved cover for our schedule.

Paparoa Track and infrastructure updates

This week while visiting Blackball, the excitement is obviously growing as new infrastructure starts to become apparent.  Invites to the opening on November 30th are now circulating and the planned public toilets are under construction. Word is that the track construction progress has sped up and by opening it will be connected – albeit a few spot spots will still be worked on.

The road is looking more problematic, and opening day access may be limited to 2-3 set times.  Care will be urged and as there are some narrow and step one-way sections involved.  Construction is likely to continue through December. Campervan access up this road is likely to be problematic.  At the Smoko-ho car carpark, there will be limited capacity and definitely no overnight camping.

New early morning shuttle departure from Blackball

Working with the Blackball Co-op has allowed us to revisit our timetable – plus respond to those who have sought an earlier shuttle to enable them to get underway earlier.  It has also allowed us to revisit pricing around vehicle relocations and sharpen these somewhat.  The new early morning timetable will now look like this:
  • 7.45 am Depart Blackball – Smoko-ho carpark
  • 8.00 am Depart Greymouth – Blackball
  • 8.45 am  Depart Blackball – Smoko-ho car park

New pricing

Our new relationship with the Blackball Co-op has also allowed us to re-visit our pricing across a range of our shuttles and offerings.  We have now changed these to the following amounts – and where clients have already made payment, we will be in touch with how the payment will be refunded.
  • Vehicle Relocations ex Smoko-ho carpark to Punakaiki:  Was $190, Now $160 + $10 for private parking in Punakaiki.
  • Bike movement on all our shuttles: Was $15, Now $10.
  • Shuttle Punakaiki – Smoko car park: Was $80, Now $70.
