The Paparoa Walk

Be one of the first to walk New Zealand’s newest and 10th Great Walk. Experience the spectacular natural wilderness of the Paparoa National Park by crossing the Paparoa Range. The Paparoa Walk takes you over alpine tops, through limestone karst landscapes and thriving rainforests, and provides breath-taking views.

Most people will walk this beautiful new track over three days, and the critical factor will be what huts you have been able to book. A midday start will mean you will probably stay overnight at the Ces Clark hut, nestled on the bush line with spectacular views from the large sunny glass windows. Staying at Ces Clark and walking in three days will mean it’s a longish day up onto the tops and past Moonlight hut and onto the Pororari hut – a 32 km walk! If you do take this option, it will be a short 16.4km walk out to Punakaiki.

Arrive at accommodation at either Blackball or Greymouth. At Blackball there is a range of accommodation partners we work with providing a range of options for you.

If you are staying at Greymouth, we will shuttle you at approximately 9am through to Blackball and from there up to the Smoke-ho Carpark, and the start of the Paparoa Great Walk. From here its over to you to weave your way up the track through the bush. At bush line you will have a chance to rest at Ces Clark hut before pushing onto Moonlight Tops Hut.

The trail continues along the tops before descending again into the bush and onto the Pororari Hut.

The trail continues down through the bush and crosses the inland Pack track and the swing bridge before a final 3 kms of beautiful walking down the trail to emerge at Punakaiki.

Our shuttle will collect you from a designated pick up (possibly the Punakaiki tavern) and return you to either Greymouth or Blackball and either your post trip accommodation or your waiting vehicle.
